In this activity students practice adding two numbers while exploring and noticing patterns. Emphasizing number flexibility, the activity offers numerous opportunities for practice, investigation, and making conjectures, enabling students to view the sum of two numbers in various ways. A key outcome is to aid students in building a mental representation of dice and the numbers on their faces. This is important both spatially and numerically, as a six-sided die has a structured design. The dots represent numbers, allowing students to practice identifying numbers based on dot patterns as they flip and turn the dice. We value multiple representations!
