Estimating (K-12) [video]

Estimating might sound like an activity from young children, and although it is fantastic for them to estimate how many pieces of candy are in a jar or how many crackers come in a box, older students can also benefit from these and take them to the next level. Think about very small things in containers (for example, a bag of rice or a tub of oatmeal). They can make an estimate by just looking, but they can then refine those estimates by measuring, using notions of volume, weight, etc.
