Overview

Join Dr. Jo Boaler, Cathy Williams, and the youcubed team for a two-day interactive online workshop exploring a Mathematical Mindset approach.

This workshop introduces educators to a Mathematical Mindset approach that can be implemented across all grade levels to transform students’ experiences with mathematics. Grounded in research on brain plasticity and learning, the session challenges common myths about who can succeed in math and instead emphasizes that all students can grow and achieve at high levels.

Participants will explore how to create a Mindset Culture, with classroom environments that value sense-making, multiple strategies, and productive struggle—helping students develop confidence, curiosity, and resilience. Through engaging tasks, visual mathematics, and “teaching moves” across grade levels, educators will experience how visual representations and connections support deep, meaningful mathematical understanding, and consider how these approaches can be brought into their own classrooms.

The workshop also focuses on practical, in-the-moment teaching moves that promote positive mathematical identities and agency. Teachers will learn how to pose open, low-floor/high-ceiling tasks, respond to student thinking in ways that extend understanding, and encourage collaboration and discourse. Attention will be given to equitable practices that broaden participation and disrupt traditional hierarchies in math classrooms.

By the end of the session, participants will leave with adaptable strategies, ready-to-use activities, and a clear vision for cultivating mathematical mindsets in all students, regardless of grade level or prior achievement.

The workshop begins at 9:00 am each day and ends at 3:00 pm each day.
