Online Overview
The transition from number sense to operations is a powerful moment in students’ mathematical development. When learners are invited to notice patterns, make connections, visualize ideas, and share different ways of thinking, they develop a deeper and more flexible understanding of mathematics.
In this interactive workshop, participants will experience research-informed, mindset-rich strategies that help students move beyond memorizing procedures and toward reasoning with confidence and curiosity. Together, we will explore meaningful ways to engage learners across the number system, including whole numbers, integers, fractions, and decimals.
Participants will investigate how visual, creative, and connected approaches—grounded in research on mathematical learning—can open mathematics to more students, strengthen understanding of operations, and help students see themselves as capable mathematics learners. These connections are essential for success in arithmetic and provide an important foundation for later learning in algebra.
Participants will learn from Dr Boaler, Cathy Williams, the youcubed team, and one another. Participants will leave with practical activities, instructional strategies, and new ways to create classrooms where students are encouraged to take risks, value multiple approaches, and develop flexible, connected mathematical thinking.
The workshop begins at 9:00 am each day and ends at 3:00 pm each day.

Workshop Accordions (Online)
All registered participants will receive a Zoom link and password by email at least one week before the workshop and the day before the workshop.
After the event, we’ll send a follow-up email to all participants, even those who couldn’t attend live, with a recording and other workshop resources. This recording will remain available for one year following the event.
Each participant must join the workshop from their own device with the Zoom link we will provide. If you wish to register multiple people from the same school or district, please use the “Get Tickets” button to create a group order. During checkout, you’ll provide each attendee’s name and email so they can receive individual access.
Yes. Participants in youcubed virtual workshops receive Professional Development Hours (PDHs), verified by a certificate of completion emailed after the event. As a general guideline, 10 PDHs are typically considered equivalent to 1 Continuing Education Unit (CEU), though this may vary by institution.
PDHs are awarded by Youcubed, which is part of Stanford University. Please note that PDHs and CEUs cannot be applied toward any Stanford University degree. The transfer or acceptance of PDHs or CEUs is at the discretion of the receiving institution or organization.
All sales are final, but we understand that unexpected situations can come up. If you’d like to request a refund or transfer of ticket, please email pdinfo@youcubed.org with a brief explanation. While we can’t guarantee a refund, we’ll review your request thoughtfully and get back to you as soon as possible.
